From Threads to Thrillers: Dana Killion’s Journey of Resilience

Welcome back to another episode of "Kim Talks Resilience!" Today, we delve into the remarkable journey of Dana Killion, a woman whose resilience transcends both the fashion runways and the intriguing landscapes of mystery novels.

From Fashion to Fiction

Dana's career as a clothing designer took her to good heights, but a family situation in 2015 prompted a career shift. Seeking flexibility, she turned to writing, creating the captivating Andrea Kellner mystery series. Unlike authors who craft one book at a time, Dana has penned six exciting novels since 2017.

Analyzing her own reading preferences, Dana realized her love for mystery novels with female protagonists, especially those in a series format. With this in mind, she embarked on her journey as a fiction writer, publishing the first book in her series in 2017. Since then, she has written a total of six books, captivating readers with her compelling storytelling.

Embracing the Pandemic as an Author

The pandemic, often a disruptor, became an unexpected ally for Dana. Already accustomed to the solitary nature of writing, she used the quiet time to deepen her storytelling, offering readers more engaging narratives.

A Journey from fiction to Memoir

Dana's storytelling prowess extends beyond fiction. Her memoir, "Where the Shadows Dance: He Got Sober, I Got Broke," transforms personal journaling into a powerful narrative, breaking the silence around addiction and offering solace to those facing similar challenges.

As she continued her journey, Dana realized the healing power of writing and the importance of sharing her story. The silence surrounding addiction and the lack of resources for loved ones inspired her to turn her journal into a manuscript. By sharing her experiences, she aimed to help others who may be going through similar struggles, letting them know they are not alone.

The Publishing Journey

Navigating the publishing landscape, Dana provides insights into the differences between traditional and independent publishing. Her fiction series finds a home in independent publishing, granting her creative autonomy. For her memoir, she opts for a traditional route, recognizing the unique dynamics of non-fiction marketing.
